Ramaria formosa var. concolor McAfee & Grund Fruit body 5-10cm high, 3.5-9cm wide; several main ascending branches, dividing in several ranks of smaller branches, which divide into "fingers" at the tips; pale buffy salmon branches with similar color tips that brown when bruised or in age; branch texture often wrinkled. Base single or falsely clustered stems; white browning on handling; smooth. Flesh solid drying soft, not gelatinous; white. Odor virtually none. Taste mild when fresh, becoming acidic. Spores cylindrical, 10.4-13 x 4.7-5.4µ, ornamented with short wide ridges up to 0.2µ. high. Clamps present. Habitat on the ground under hemlock and mixed conifers. Found in northeastern North America. Season August-September. Edibility not known -avoid, many Ramarias can cause stomach upset. |
