Leucopaxillus albissimus (Pk.) Singer Cap 3-10cm across, convex-flattened, margin incurved; white to cream color; glabrous, dry. Gills adnate to subdecurrent, crowded, narrow; white. Stem 50-80 x 5-15mm; white with dense mat of white mycelial hairs at base. Flesh white. Odor pleasant. Taste bitter. Spores ellipsoid, with low amyloid warts, 5.5-8.5 x 4-6µ. Deposit white. Habitat often in circles in coniferous woods. Found widely distributed throughout most of North America. Season August-October. Not edible. |
