Macrolepiota rhacodes var. bohemica (Which) Bellu & Lanzoni Syn. Lepiota rhacodes var. hortensis Pilat Cap 10–15cm across, subglobose at first, smooth and entirely reddish-brown, expanding to convex and disrupting into large angular scales, except at the centre, exposing the whitish fibrous subcutaneous layer. Stem 60–70´18–24mm, ending in a large subspherical bulb 40–60mm across, white discolouring brownish below the large, thick double ring. Flesh white, discolouring orange or reddish on cutting but less strongly so than the type. Taste and smell pleasant. Gills white to cream, eventually dirty buff or brown-spotted. Spore print white. Spores elliptic with germ-pore, dextrinoid, 10–13´7.5–9.5m. Habitat on rich soil in gardens and compost heaps. Season summer to autumn. Frequent. Edible but may cause gastric upsets in some people. Distribution, Europe and probably America .
