Tricholoma odorum Pk. Cap 2-9cm across, obtusely convex expanding to flatter and occasionally becoming concave, often with an umbo and incurved margin becoming wavy at times; greenish yellow when young, becoming yellow then fading to yellowish buff or dark buff with the disc light brown; dry, dull, smooth, naked. Gills sinuate or adnate, close, broad; yellow to pale yellowish buff. Stem 30-110 X 5-15mm, often twisted, with a bulbous or rounded base, sometimes tapering abruptly; light greenish yellow to very pale yellow in age, sometimes bruising brownish-spotted at the base. Flesh thick; pale greenish yellow then pale buff. Odor of coal tar. Taste mealy. Spores ellipsoid to fusiform, smooth, nonamyloid, 9.5-11.4x4.8-6.7ì. Deposit white. Habitat in groups or dense clusters under hardwoods or in mixed deciduous and coniferous woods. Quite common. Found widely distributed in northeastern North America, west to the Great Lakes. Season August-October. Not edible.
