Suillus brevipes (Pk.) Kuntze Cap 5-10cm across, convex to nearly plane, with margin sometimes slightly lobed; dark red- or gray-brown becoming more red or yellowish brown; smooth and very slimy. Tubes adnate to decurrent honey yellow, becoming more greenish in age. Pores small, round; pale yellow. Stem 20-50 x 10-20mm, solid; white becoming pale yellowy, sometimes with faint dots. No veil. Flesh white becoming pale yellow. Odor not distinctive. Taste not distinctive. Spores ellipsoid, 7-10 x 2.5-3.2µ. Deposit cinnamon. Habitat scattered to gregarious in sandy soil under conifers. Common. Found widespread in southern, eastern, and western North America. Season June-November. Edible-good. |
