Spathularia velutipes Cke. & Farlow. Velvety Fairy Fan. Fruit body 1.5-5cm high, forming a laterally compressed fan- to spoon like head on a narrow stem. Cap pale yellow or buff, often irregular and lobed, rather soft-fleshed. Stem 3-6mm long, brownish and minutely velvety. Spores needlelike, smooth, 33-43 x 2-3µ; divided into many cells. Deposit white. Habitat on decaying logs, in pine woods. Found from North Carolina to northeastern North America and west to Minnesota. Season August-September. Not edible. Comment The similar Spathularia flavida Pers. has a paler, whitish and non-velvety stem; in California is found Spathularia spathulata (Imai) Mains, with a browner or reddish-brown head.

Spathularia flavida.Pers- found in Serbia,Babusnica,by Dejan Stojanovich -Dragon.It is very similar to spathularia velutipes,but whole fruit body is yellow.
