Rhizopogon ellenae Smith Fruit body 1-9cm across or long, oval, elongated, or roundish and sometimes flattened; outer surface white at first, then developing pinky-gray or purplish smoky-gray tones in age or with handling; smooth or minutely hairy with a few strands of mycelium. Spore mass minutely chambered; white when young. Spores ellipsoid to oblong, smooth, weakly amyloid, 7-9 x 3-4µ. Habitat scattered or in groups or clusters in soil or needle duff under conifers, particularly pine. Common and sometimes abundant. Found in western North America. Season September-November. Edibility not known -avoid.
