Ramaria flavo-saponaria Petersen Fruit body up to 12cm high, 8cm wide; numerous short branches that become very long in mature specimens and divide several times to the crowded tips; light, bright yellow branches with cadmium yellow tips, all parts staining weakly vinescent around soil particles. Base up to 30 x 15mm, single, knobby and irregularly shaped; white underground, yellow-buff above. Flesh slippery to soapy but not gelatinous; white, mottled. Odor distinctly bean-like when fresh, of fenugreek when dry. Taste moderately beanlike. Spores narrowly ovoid to subcylindrical, ornamented with complex, meandering ridges forming a reticulum, 7.2-11.2 x 3.6-5.4µ. No clamps present. Habitat on the ground under hemlock and mixed conifers. Found in northeastern North America. Season August-September. Edibility not known -avoid, many Ramarias can cause stomach upset.
