Pluteus admirabilis Pk. Cap 1-3cm across, convex then soon flat, umbonate; bright yellow, then tawny with age; glabrous. Gills free, close; pallid then pink. Stem 30-60 x 1-2.5mm. fragile; pale yellow; smooth. Odor not distinctive. Taste not distinctive. Spores broadly ellipsoid, smooth, 6-7 x 4.5-5.8µ. Deposit dull pink. Habitat often in groups on decayed hardwood logs. Common. Found in the Great Lakes area eastward and south. Season July-October. Edible. Comment Cap cuticle is formed of globose cells. The similar Pluteus leoninus (Schaeff. ex Fr.) Kummer sensu Lange, with filamentous cuticle, has a white stem.
