Pleurotellus porrigens (Pers. ex Fr.) Kühn. & Romagn. syn. Pleurocybella porrigens (Pers. ex Fr.) Singer syn. Pleurotus porrigens (Pers. ex Fr.) Kummer Ohrförmiger Seitling Angel Wings. Cap 2–10cm across, white, sessile, tongue-shaped, the margin becoming wavy and lobed with age, but fruit bodies often much distorted by mutual pressure. Flesh white. Gills ivory white. Spores subglobose, 5–6m. Habitat rotting wood, frequently on partly buried moss-covered branches forming dense clusters. Season autumn. In Britain restricted to coniferous woodland in the Scottish highlands. Poisonous. In the past this has been thought of as an edible species, but there have been reported a number of fatalities from Japan. Distribution, America and Europe. |
