Otidea alutacea (Pers.) Massee syn. Peziza alutacea Pers. Lederfarbener Öhrling. Cup 2–4cm wide, 2–5cm high, lopsided and irregularly wavy with a split at the shorter side, inner surface clay-buff, outer pale fawn buff and slightly scurfy. Flesh thick, yellowish. Asci 250 x 15µ, not blued by iodine. Paraphyses slender, curved at tip. Spores containing two oil drops, 12–15 x 6–7µ. Habitat often in clusters, in soil in woods. Season late summer to autumn. Uncommon. Not edible. Distribution, America and Europe.
