Leucopaxillus tricolor (Pk.) Kühner Cap 8-30cm across, convex-flattened, margin inrolled at first; pinkish buff to tan. Gills adnate to subdecurrent, crowded, broad; slightly yellowish. Stem 40-100 x 10-25mm, bulbous at base; white with mycelium binding the soil at base. Flesh thick; white. Odor strong, unpleasant. Taste mild to unpleasant. Spores ovoid, with isolated warts, 6-8 x 4-5.5µ. Deposit white. Habitat under mixed hardwoods. Found from the western Great Lakes through eastern North America. Season July-September. Edibility not known -avoid. |
