Leucopaxillus gentianus (Quel.) Kotlaba syn. Leucopaxillus amarus (A. & S. ex Fr.) Kuhner Cap 5-15cm across, convex flattened, with inrolled margin at first; deep vinaceous brown to nut brown; dry to slightly subtomentose. Gills adnate, crowded, narrow; white to cream. Stem 50-100 x 8-45mm, equal; white to slightly brownish. Flesh white. Odor strong, pungent. Taste bitter. Spores subglobose, with low warts, 4-5.5x 4-5.5um. Deposit white. Habitat under conifers. Common. Found in Europe and western North America. Season July-September. Not edible. |
