Leccinum oxydabile (Sing.) Sing. syn. Krombholzia oxydabilis Sing. Rothautröhrling. Cap 7–14cm, buff to ochraceous with darker disc, slightly downy or smooth with irregular small scales. Stem 60–100 x 20–35mm, apex covered in brown scales which gradually become darker below. Flesh firm, white flushing coral in cap, pale yellow-greenish in stem. Taste and smell not distinctive. Tubes white becoming buff. Pores small, similarly coloured, bruising dark ochraceous. Spore print ochraceous snuff-brown. Spores subfusiform, 18–19 x 6–6.5um. Habitat under spruce with scrub birch. Season summer to autumn. Rare. Edible – not worthwhile. Distribution, America and Europe. |
