Hygrophorus eburneus (Bull. ex Fr.) Fr. syn. Limacium eburneum (Bull. ex. Fr.) Kummer. Ivory Wax Cap, Hygrophore blanc d'ivoire, Fichten-Schneckling, Elfenbein-Schneckling, Elefántcsont csigagomba, Ivoorzwam. Cap 3–7cm across, convex then becoming flattened, pure white, slimy. Stem 40–70 x 5–10mm, tapering towards the base, covered in mealy granules near the apex when young, white, slimy. Flesh thick at centre of cap, white. Taste and smell faint but pleasant. Gills decurrent, white. Spore print white. Spores broadly ellipsoid, 6–8 x 4–5um. No reaction with KOH on cap. Habitat in leaf litter in woods, especially beech. Season autumn. Rare. Edible – not recommended. (Never eat any mushroom until you are certain it is edible as many are poisonous and some are deadly poisonous.) Distribution, America and Europe.
