Russula peckii Singer. Cap 3-10cm across, subglobose then convex then flattened-depressed; deep blood red to ruby red, often paler at disc; dry and dull, minutely velvety; peels about halfway. Gills close, broad, margin clearly serrated-crenulate; yellowish white Stem 45-100 x 8-24mm, clavate; white flushed strongly old rose to bright pink; dry, dull. Flesh white. Odor not distinctive. Taste mild to bitter. Spores ovoid, 6.5-9.5 x 5.6-8.4µ; warts up to 1.2µ high, isolated to partially reticulate. Deposit white (A-B). Habitat in mixed woods. Found throughout northern and eastern North America. Season July-October. Not edible
