Coprinus lagopus (Fr.) Fr. Hasen-Tintling Hare's Foot Inkcap Cap 2–4cm high, cylindrical-ovoid or conical, almost flat when expanded, greyish covered with whitish to greyish fibrillose veil remnants. Stem 65–130 x 2–3mm, swollen at base, white, covered in down as the cap at first then smooth. Smell none. Gills white, rapidly turning black. Spore print violaceous black. Spores ellipsoid, 11–13.5 x 6–7um. Habitat on soil or in leaf litter in shady woods, less frequently in fields. Season summer to autumn. Occasional. Edible – but not worthwhile. Distribution, America and Europe. |
