Boletus pallidus Pk.Pallid Bolete Cap 4-15cm across, broadly convex; pale cream-buff to pale leather-colored with age; dull, dry when young, can be slightly viscid when wet. Tubes adnate to stem or slightly depressed; pale yellow then olive. Pores pallid yellowish, not changing color on bruising. Stem 50-120 x 8-30mm, equal or clavate; pallid to yellowish at apex and often flushed reddish at base; smooth. Flesh dirty white. Odor not distinctive. Taste not distinctive. Spores subfusiform, 9-15 x 3-4.5µ. Deposit olive-brown. Habitat often gregarious, even caespitose, under oak on sandy soil. Common. Found in eastern North America Season July-September. Edible. |
