Cortinarius (Phlegmacium) elegantissimus Henry syn. C. alboturbinatus Lange Prächtiger Dickfuss Cap 4.5–12cm across, convex then expanded, margin incurved, sulphur-yellow soon discolouring rusty especially towards the centre, remaining sulphur-yellow at the margin. Stem 60–120 x 10–18mm (20–40mm wide at the more or less marginate bulb), yellow becoming tinged buff. Flesh white, sulphur-yellow in bulb. Taste mild, smell sickly sweet. Gills yellow then olivaceous, finally pale rust. Spore print rust. Spores lemon-shaped, very rough, 11.5–15 x 7–8.5µ. No reaction on flesh with NaOH but cap cuticle turns reddish-brown to purplish-black. Habitat beech woods on chalk. Season autumn. Occasional. Edibility suspect -avoid. Found In Europe. |
