Cortinarius huronensis Ammirati & Smith subgenus Dermocybe Cap 2-4cm across, convex, umbonate; olivaceous, more brown in the center and eventually all over. Gills adnate to sinuate; yellow at first, eventually rusty yellow. Stem 30-75 x 3-6mm, equal or slightly swollen at the base; yellowish with reddish tints near the base, in age more olivaceous with brown base. Flesh yellowish. Odor radishy. Taste of radish. Spores ellipsoid, warty, 8.5-10 x 5-5.5µ., quotient 1.75. Deposit rusty brown. Clamp connections present. Habitat in mosses under conifers. Uncommon. I know only of records for Michigan and Washington, but it is probably more widespread. Season September. Not edible. Comment KOH causes a reddish-brown reaction on the cap.
