Cortinarius (Telamonia) hinnuleus (Sow.) Fr. Hirschbrauner Wasserkopf Earthy Webcap Cap 2.5–6cm across, convex to bell-shaped then expanded and umbonate, dark ochre brown when moist drying paler and more ochraceous, margin pallid when young and covered in the whitish cobwebby veil. Stem 30–100 x 5–12mm, paler than cap, covered below in white silky velar remains, often forming a distinct white ring-like zone; cortina white. Flesh whitish tinged with cap colour, often flushed violaceous in stem apex when young. Taste mild with a slightly bitter aftertaste, smell slight, sometimes faintly of radish. Gills tinged violaceous at first, ochraceous then tawny. Spore print rust. Spores narrowly elliptic, minutely roughened, 7–8(9) x 4–4.75µ. Habitat with popular and willow. Season autumn. Occasional.
